About LenderLegit
To help you check a company before handing over your bank login, LenderLegit maintains a public-record file. It covers payday loan law in every one of the 50 states and DC, 19 online lenders, and 13 cash advance apps.
Horizon Capital Advisors LLC runs LenderLegit. We are not a lender. If you call our phone line or send our form, a specialist service may pay us. That never changes what a record says. More on how we are paid

Building a lender record
- Words from the company itself. The lender or app supplies these figures on its own FAQ, rate and term pages: funding times, states, terms, loan amounts and APRs. We attach every record figure to its source page and include a short quote verified against that page. Fills: APR, amounts and states.
- Ownership details. Company disclosures, court opinions, and regulator orders reveal owners and tribes; review sites are not used. Fills: Owner.
- Complaint data. The CFPB Consumer Complaint Database supplies complaint counts, listed under the company name the CFPB assigns to the brand. This count is raw, not a rate: bigger companies get more complaints because they have more customers, and the total covers the entire firm, not just one app or loan. Fills: Complaints to the CFPB.
- Recorded actions. Each linked entry traces lawsuits, consent orders and settlements to the CFPB, the FTC, state regulators, state attorneys general and court records. Fills: Enforcement actions.
- Laws by state. Every state page quotes the statute, identifies the regulator, and links the licence lookup tool. To confirm status, cap, and largest loan, we read a second official page. Fills: each state law page.
- Reading the lender tables. A dash marks a figure the lender does not publish; for an APR, ask for it in writing before you sign. Interest on $500 is our own sum, not a quote: $500 paid back in 6 equal monthly payments at the lowest and the highest APR the lender posts, and some lenders do not offer a 6-month loan. Complaint counts cover every state, and a note shows when one covers a whole parent company. Fills: the tables on each state page.
We do not post badges, scores, or star ratings. What is on file appears in the record; the choice belongs to you.
Ways to identify a fake lender
- Before the loan comes to you, it asks for a fee. Real lenders deduct fees from the loan or bill you later.
- It guarantees approval before learning anything about you.
- It cannot say which lender is on the loan agreement, and it is not licensed in your state. Use NMLS Consumer Access to check the licence, or consult your state regulator found on each state's page.
- It requests payment via crypto, wire, or gift card.
- Its name resembles a real lender, yet the phone number or web address differs. Enter the lender name in the lookup and use the address shown on its record.
If money was requested up front, send a report to the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
We are not a lender or broker
LenderLegit does not act as a lender, broker, or credit counselor. We never make loans, accept applications, or forward applications to lenders. A specialist in debt and loan options answers the site phone number; only if you agree does the short form send your answers to a specialist serving your state. Records contain no application links, and lenders pay nothing to appear in them.
How we are paid: when you call or send the form, the specialist service may pay us, and Horizon Capital Advisors LLC runs LenderLegit. Such payment never alters what a record states.
